Cocciaretto raggiunge la finale a Charleston

Elisabetta Cocciaretto has had a week to remember, reaching the final of the “Fifth Third Charleston,” a WTA 125 tournament with a prize money of $115,000 that is nearing its conclusion on the hard courts of Charleston, South Carolina.

In the semifinals, the 23-year-old from Fermo, ranked 60th and seeded fourth, defeated the Belgian player Greet Minnen by 7-6(4), 6-1, in an hour and three quarters of play.

In their first encounter, the player from Marche found herself trailing by a break twice in the first set (1-3 and 3-5): she saved a set point in the ninth game (4-5), wasted a chance to serve for the set at 6-5, but still managed to win the tie-break by 7 points to 4. The second set was one-sided, with Cocciaretto taking a commanding lead at 3-0 and then 5-1, closing out the match on her first match point (6-1).
