World Championship Decisions in Suzuka
To end our day of updates, I have a small photo gallery for you. While the race in Japan in 2024 is taking place so early in a season for the first time, the race has usually been held in the fall before.
This has often led to the outcome of a World Championship being decided in Suzuka! More on this in the aforementioned photo gallery:

1987: Nigel Mansell came to the penultimate race of the season with a 12-point deficit to Nelson Piquet at the first Grand Prix ever held at the Japanese track. Mansell crashed in the S-curves during training, suffered back contusions, and had to watch helplessly on Sunday as his hated Williams teammate, despite a Honda engine failure, became World Champion.

Williams: Set-up still not right
Aside from the Sargeant crash, it was not a successful day for Williams. Dave Robson reports: “We didn’t quite get the set-up right in FP1.”
“We made some changes for FP2,” he reveals, but then the rain spoiled Williams’ plans. “We will now use FP3 to see if we are heading in the right direction,” says Robson.
Alexander Albon also explains: “We would have liked to do more laps in FP2 since we didn’t feel very comfortable with the car after the first training session. We tried to make some changes to improve the car.”
Whether that worked out will only be known on Saturday.
