John Murtough pronto a lasciare il Manchester United questa settimana con l’arrivo di Dan Ashworth | Calcio
John Murtough, Manchester United’s director of football, has announced his resignation from the club. He joined United in 2013 and worked with the academy and scouting departments before being promoted to head of football development in 2016. In 2021, he became United’s first director of football.
While Murtough received credit for the promotions of players like Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, he has faced criticism for his handling of United’s transfer policy. He played a role in the appointment of Erik ten Hag but was also blamed for the club following the Dutchman’s transfer demands.
Despite initial talks of keeping Murtough in a new role, he has decided to step down as Dan Ashworth is set to take over his current position. Negotiations are underway with Newcastle to release Ashworth from his position as United plan for a new technical setup. Richard Arnold has resigned as CEO and will be replaced by Omar Berrada of Manchester City.
