Frank Leboeuf says Chelsea missed a major opportunity by not signing two “experienced” players who ended up joining rivals Tottenham and West Ham.

Despite spending over £1billion on new players since Todd Boehly’s takeover in 2022, Chelsea is currently ninth in the Premier League and struggling this season. Many of their signings have not lived up to expectations, with the team’s lack of experience being a major factor in their performance.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino acknowledged the team’s learning process after a recent draw with Sheffield United, emphasizing that building a team takes time and is not a quick fix.

Leboeuf criticized Chelsea’s transfer policy and suggested that signing players like James Maddison and James Ward-Prowse would have been beneficial. These players, who were available for reasonable fees last summer, have had successful seasons at Tottenham and West Ham, respectively.

Leboeuf highlighted the importance of experience in the squad, pointing out that players like Maddison and Ward-Prowse could have added value without breaking the bank.
