ATP Montecarlo: Rune protesta e accusa favoritismi verso Sinner [VIDEO]

Pierre De Coubertin believed that the important thing is to participate. When the stakes are high, it is difficult to stay true to the founder of the modern Olympic Games. Holger Rune knows this all too well, having been defeated in the quarter-finals of the ATP Monte Carlo by Jannik Sinner and seemingly struggling to digest the disappointment. It is no surprise that the fiery character of the Danish player takes over in heated moments of a match, but this time the target of his anger is none other than the highest governing body of world tennis.

While facing Sinner in the second set, the 2003-born player displayed a provocative attitude, expressing his disapproval of the match’s progress and even clashing with the audience. This behavior did not unsettle the Italian player, who, after losing the second set in a tiebreak, found his rhythm again and secured a spot in the semi-finals.

A comeback that was only just missed, sending the Scandinavian player into a rage that he still can’t seem to shake off even in the days that followed, venting all his frustration on social media. On X, formerly Twitter, the ATP posted a highlight of a winning shot by Sinner that sparked controversy from the Danish player. In response to the post, Holger accused the organization of not putting him in the best conditions to compete in the match, not allowing him enough rest after two grueling matches against Nagal and Dimitrov. As if that wasn’t enough, the seventh-ranked player raised doubts about the impartiality of the referee, claiming that the reigning Australian Open champion had benefitted from some favorable calls. Not ideal.

“And what does that mean? Not that you gave me the best conditions, having to play two matches that ended late the day before, without giving me time to recover. The chair umpire made crucial errors, giving me a wrong warning that disrupted the game. May the force be with you, my god…”

Meaning what @atptour …..? Not that you gave me the best conditions in the first place having to play 2 matches the day before ending late, leaving almost no recovery time. Chair Umpire making crucial mistakes and giving wrong warning that disturbed the game. May the force be… https://t.co/uOTxIwD56Q
