Milano scioccato dal fuorigioco più stretto della storia della Serie A
Milan shocked by the tightest offside call in Serie A history
Milan recently experienced a shocking moment when a goal by Samuel Chukwueze was disallowed against Sassuolo due to what is considered the tightest offside call in Serie A history. Chukwueze managed to find the back of the net on a cross from Rafael Leao from the left, but the offside flag went up immediately.
Upon review with VAR, it was revealed that Martin Erlic had delayed the push up, and his foot was almost level with Chukwueze. Only the Semi-Automatic Offside Technology, already in use in Serie A and set to be introduced in the Premier League next season, was able to pinpoint the millimetres between the players.
In the end, the footage showed that a portion of Chukwueze’s shoulder was offside. According to the rules, if it is a body part that a player can legally score a goal with, it must be taken into consideration when determining an offside position. This call is likely to be one of the closest in Serie A history.
The incident was captured on Twitter by Serie A Out of Context, showcasing the intricacies of the offside decision.
