ATP Bucarest, Coria critica: “Incomprensibile che questo torneo si giochi ancora”
Federico Coria has been one of the many players to complain about the ongoing ATP tournament in Bucharest. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the playing conditions and the organization of the tournament. Coria, who was eliminated in the second round by Francisco Cerundolo with a score of 7-5 6-1 after several rain interruptions, was particularly vocal about the single-handed schedule set by the tournament committee and the lack of lighting, which was a major issue in the stormy tournament in Romania.
Taking to social media, the 1992-born player sarcastically pointed out the delays in the match between Cerundolo and Mariano Navone (which Navone eventually won in a comeback). Coria, ranked 83rd, was surprised to learn that the ATP 250 tournament in Estoril will be canceled next year to make way for the heavily criticized Bucharest event.
“Imagine if this tournament had taken place in South America, there is no light, it didn’t rain yesterday and the day couldn’t be completed. Navone played the first round and Francisco the second today because there were no more courts available, now they are playing against each other, if they continue the match will be suspended. Another incomprehensible thing is that Estoril disappears and this tournament remains,” Coria tweeted.
