Osaka vince all’esordio a Madrid, Badosa eliminata subito dall’italiana Koin

Naomi Osaka makes an impressive start at the Madrid Open by defeating Greet Minnen 6-4 6-1 in just 1 hour and 20 minutes. The former world number 1 played a flawless game, only conceding one break point to her opponent and showcasing a good connection with the red clay of Madrid. Despite Minnen’s strong first serve percentage of 71%, she only won 60% of points. Osaka dominated the match with a run of seven consecutive games, breaking Minnen to take the first set and a 2-0 lead in the second. Minnen had to save multiple break points but couldn’t hold on when serving to stay in the set. The second set lasted just 36 minutes, with Osaka continuing to assert her dominance. She will face Samsonova in the next round.

Meanwhile, Sara Sorribes Tormo defeated Bernarda Pera 7-5 6-2 in a match that lasted 1 hour and 55 minutes. Pera, who came through qualifying, put up a tough fight but ultimately fell to the Spanish player. In the first set, there were a total of nine breaks, with Pera serving for the set at one point. Sorribes Tormo rallied to win the set 7-5. The second set saw Sorribes Tormo take a commanding lead, winning four games in a row to secure the victory.

Donna Vekic made light work of Laura Siegemund, defeating her 6-1 6-2 in just 1 hour and 20 minutes. Vekic will now face the 5th seed Maria Sakkari in the next round.

In another match, Jessica Bouzas pulled off an upset by defeating Paula Badosa 2-6 6-3 6-3. Badosa, who had struggled with injuries in a previous tournament, was unable to overcome Bouzas’ determination in a match marked by twists and turns. Bouzas took charge in the second set and closed out the match in three sets.

Additionally, there were disappointing results for Chinese players Yuan and Zhu, who were eliminated in their respective matches. Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva also advanced to the next round after defeating Lin Zhu.

Lauren Davis returned to the court after a prolonged break, only to be defeated by an Egyptian player due to physical struggles. The match saw Sherif ultimately emerge victorious after battling through a tough third set.
